How Do I Connect My Samsung Watch on Android?

Updated May 12, 2026 Employee

Your Samsung Galaxy Watch can be selected as your Android step device in Vantage Fit. Connect it from Device Management and make sure your watch is syncing to Samsung Health.

How the Connection Works

Samsung Watch uses this data chain:

Samsung Watch → Samsung Health → Vantage Fit

Here is what each piece does:

  1. Samsung Watch records your steps, workouts, heart rate, and sleep on your wrist
  2. Samsung Health (the Samsung companion app on your phone) pulls that data from the watch automatically
  3. Vantage Fit reads the selected Samsung Watch step connection

This means you need three things working:

  • Your Samsung Watch paired with your phone (you probably already have this)
  • Samsung Watch selected in Vantage Fit Device Management

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Make Sure Your Samsung Watch is Paired

Your Samsung Watch should already be paired with your Android phone and syncing to Samsung Health. If you are using your watch day-to-day and seeing your data in the Samsung Health app, this step is done.

If you have not paired your watch yet:

  1. Install the Samsung Wearable app (also called Galaxy Wearable) from the Play Store
  2. Open it and follow the on-screen pairing instructions
  3. Once paired, your watch data will begin syncing to Samsung Health automatically

Step 2: Confirm Samsung Health Has Your Watch Data

Samsung Health should show your recent watch data.

  1. Open Samsung Health on your phone
  2. Confirm your recent steps and workouts appear there
  3. If they do not, check your Galaxy Wearable app and watch pairing

Tip: If you do not see a Health Connect option in Samsung Health, make sure both Samsung Health and Health Connect are updated to their latest versions in the Play Store.

Step 3: Connect Samsung Watch in Vantage Fit

  1. Open Vantage Fit and go to Settings
  2. Tap "Device Management"
  3. Tap "Samsung Watch" in the device list
  4. Tap "Connect"
  1. Grant the requested Android health permissions
  2. Tap "Allow"
  1. Connection complete — your Samsung Watch is now your selected Android step device

Note: When you connect Samsung Watch in Vantage Fit, it may disconnect any previously connected device (like Fitbit or Garmin). Vantage Fit supports one primary device at a time.

What Data Syncs from Your Samsung Watch

Data Type Syncs? Details
Steps Yes Daily total and hourly breakdown
Workouts Yes Type, duration, distance, calories
Heart rate Yes Continuous and on-demand readings recorded by your watch
Sleep Yes Sleep start/end, sleep stages (light, deep, REM) if tracked
Calories burned Yes Active and total energy from your watch
Distance Yes Walking and running distance

When Data Syncs

Your Samsung Watch data follows the Android sync schedule:

When What Happens
When you open Vantage Fit Immediate sync from your selected Android step source
Automatic update Android can update in the background when battery settings allow it
Manual sync Tap Sync from the Plus (+) menu in Vantage Fit

Note: For the most current step count from your watch, open the Vantage Fit app. If updates seem delayed, check your Android battery settings.

Important Things to Know

Samsung Watch is Android-only. If you switch to an iPhone, you will not be able to use your Samsung Watch with Vantage Fit. iPhones use Apple Health.

One primary device at a time. Connecting Samsung Watch may disconnect your Fitbit, Garmin, or other previously connected device. If you want to switch back to a different device later, go to Settings → Device Management and connect the other device.

Battery optimization matters. If your Samsung phone limits background activity, Vantage Fit step updates may be delayed. See How Do I Fix Battery Optimization Issues on Android? for Samsung-specific instructions.

Troubleshooting

Watch data not appearing in Vantage Fit?

Check each link in the chain:

  1. Samsung Watch → Samsung Health: Open Samsung Health on your phone. Do you see your watch's step count and recent workouts there? If not, the watch is not syncing to Samsung Health — check your Galaxy Wearable app settings.

  2. Samsung Health → Vantage Fit: Open Vantage Fit and confirm Samsung Watch is selected in Device Management. Then try a manual sync: Plus menu → Sync.

Getting a "Device already connected" error?

If you previously connected a different device (Fitbit, Garmin, etc.), you need to disconnect it first. Go to Settings → Device Management, disconnect the current device, then connect Samsung Watch.
