If your steps only update when you open the Vantage Fit app but not when it is in the background, your Android phone's battery optimization is likely restricting the app. Here is how to fix it for your specific phone brand.
Why This Happens
Android phones use battery settings to save power. If Vantage Fit is restricted, step updates may be delayed while the app is closed.
Tip: Opening the Vantage Fit app always triggers an immediate sync, so your steps are never lost — they just may not appear in real-time until you open the app. The fix below enables real-time background syncing.
Fix for Stock Android (Google Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus, etc.)
- Open phone Settings.
- Go to Apps (or Apps & notifications).
- Find and tap Vantage Fit.
- Tap Battery.
- Select "Unrestricted" (instead of "Optimized" or "Restricted").
Fix for Samsung (Galaxy S, A, Note series)
Samsung has extra battery management on top of stock Android. You need to adjust both:
Step 1: Disable battery optimization
- Open Settings → Apps → Vantage Fit → Battery → Unrestricted.
Step 2: Disable "Put unused apps to sleep"
- Open Settings → Battery and device care → Battery.
- Tap Background usage limits.
- Turn off "Put unused apps to sleep".
- If Vantage Fit is in the "Sleeping apps" or "Deep sleeping apps" list, remove it.
Fix for Xiaomi (Redmi, POCO, Mi)
Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO phones may have additional battery settings to check.
- Open Settings → Battery & performance (or Battery).
- Tap App battery saver (or Battery saver).
- Find Vantage Fit in the list.
- Select "No restrictions".
Additionally:
- Open Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Vantage Fit.
- Tap Autostart and make sure it is enabled.
Note: On some MIUI versions, you also need to lock the app in the recent apps tray. Swipe down on the Vantage Fit card in the multitask view to "lock" it.
Fix for Huawei (including Honor)
Huawei's EMUI has its own battery management system.
- Open Settings → Battery.
- Tap App launch (or Launch).
- Find Vantage Fit.
- Turn off the automatic management toggle — this switches to manual management.
- In the manual management dialog, enable all three options:
- Auto-launch: On
- Secondary launch: On
- Run in background: On
- Tap OK.
Fix for Oppo / Realme (ColorOS)
- Open Settings → Battery.
- Tap More battery settings or App battery management.
- Find Vantage Fit and set it to "Allow background activity".
Additionally:
- Open Settings → App Management → Vantage Fit.
- Enable "Auto Startup".
Fix for Vivo (Funtouch OS / Origin OS)
- Open Settings → Battery.
- Tap Background power consumption management (or High background power consumption).
- Find Vantage Fit and toggle it on (allow background power consumption).
After Making Changes
Once you have adjusted battery settings:
- Open the Vantage Fit app to trigger an immediate sync.
- Close the app and continue your day normally.
- Check after a few hours — your steps should now be updating in the background.
If steps still do not sync in the background after making these changes, try restarting your phone and opening the Vantage Fit app once.
Tip: Some phones reset battery optimization settings after major OS updates. If background sync stops working after a phone update, repeat the steps above.
